SMS is a text messaging channel. Use it to communicate a short piece of information, such as an appointment time or an order update, with a clear next step.

Text and segments

The length of an SMS depends on its encoding. A single message typically supports 160 GSM-7 characters or 70 UCS-2 characters. Longer text is split into segments, with less space in each segment because part of the payload is used to join the message back together. Some characters and emoji change the encoding or consume extra space. Treat character counts as a planning aid. Check the encoding and segment count of the final message, including personalized values, before live sending. A visible character does not always occupy one encoding unit.

Prepare the content

  • Identify the business in the message.
  • Put the essential information first.
  • Keep links and the requested action clear.
  • Check the final text, including personalized values, when estimating length.
An appointment reminder might read: “Smerio demo: your appointment is tomorrow at 10:00. Visit your booking page to manage it.”

Senders and delivery

Sender options and delivery behavior depend on the destination and sending service. Before launch, confirm the supported sender type, any registration requirements and whether replies are available for the intended route. If SMS accompanies an RCS experience, prepare a complete text version that makes sense on its own. For media content, explore MMS.
Smerio sender options, destination availability and live integration details are not confirmed yet. Saving a channel configuration does not activate sending.

Configure your number

Prepare both channels in SMS & MMS setup. The shared workspace configuration saves number and messaging preferences. It does not activate live sending.
